Classification and application of 5G industrial routers

 Classification of 5G industrial routers

1. Divide by function

It can be divided into general routers and dedicated routers.

Generally speaking, the industrial-grade router is a general routers.

Dedicated industrial wireless routers are usually optimized for industrial LTE router interfaces, hardware, etc. to achieve a specific function.

2. Divided by performance grade

From a macro perspective, routers can be divided into high, medium and low-end routers.

High-end routers: Industrial routers with a throughput greater than 40 Gbps are called high-end industrial 5G routers

Mid-range routers: Industrial routers with a throughput of 25~40 Gbps are called mid-range industrial 5G routers

Low-end routers: Industrial routers with a throughput of less than 25 Gbps are called low-end industrial 5G routers

3. Divided by structure

It can be divided into modular industrial routers and non-modular industrial routers.

Modular router: generally only has the basic function of routing, and its interface type and some extended functions need to be configured according to the actual needs of users. The user can select the corresponding module according to the type of network accessed.

Non-modular routers: Basically low-end routers for private use. They are primarily intended for home or small business use within an ISP and can only provide fixed ports.

4. Divide by object of use

It can be divided into backbone routers (core level), enterprise level routers (distribution level) and access routers (access level).

Backbone (core)-level router: It is the key device for realizing enterprise-level network interconnection, and is usually used by communication operators or ISPs. Core routers have large capacity and require high speed and reliability. Network systems generally use traditional redundancy technologies such as hot backup, dual power supplies, and dual data paths, which in turn have high speed and high reliability.

Enterprise (distribution) class router: used to connect multiple logically distributed networks. Because it needs to connect many objects, its system is simple and the data traffic is small, and it is typically used in large enterprises or campus (campus) networks.

Access (access)-level router: Remotely interconnect small local area networks or access the Internet, mainly used in homes, small companies or Internet cafes and other places with small areas and simple network environments.

Application of 5G industrial routers

1. 5G/4G Internet access

Wireless WAN network (dial-up Internet access) in the industrial field: Connect devices scattered around the Internet through the operator's 5G/4G/3G network to realize the interconnection of devices.

Widely used in: vending machine Internet access, ATM machine Internet access, power equipment Internet access and other application scenarios.

2. WiFi Internet access

Wireless LAN Internet access (WIFI Internet access) in the industrial field: provide WIFI hotspots for industrial equipment to access the Internet, and provide WIFI media for industrial equipment to access the Internet.

Widely used in: high-speed rail, high-speed train, subway, long-distance bus and other application scenarios.

3. VPN networking

Set up virtual local area network (VPN networking) through VPN: Set up virtual local area network for each branch office or equipment scattered in various places, which is convenient for interconnection with industrial software.

Widely used in: automatic monitoring, unmanned driving and other application scenarios.
